Vacation Planning
Plan a vacation without
derailing your finances.
EZBudget’s Vacation Viability tool analyses your complete financial picture — income, debt obligations, savings coverage and pay cycle timing — to find the windows when a two-week break is genuinely affordable, and warns you when it isn’t.
-
01
Models your true cost Calculates two weeks of lost net income, ongoing debt and bill obligations that still fall due, minus any accrued vacation pay your employer owes you.
-
02
Checks your savings buffer Compares total liquid savings against the minimum buffer needed to leave your regular payments unaffected while you’re away.
-
03
Scores every two-week window Each period in the next two years is scored based on payday proximity, how many bill due dates fall within it, seasonal spending patterns, and overall financial health.
-
04
Surfaces the best dates The highest-scoring viable window is highlighted on your dashboard calendar. Tap for a full ranked list with scores, blockers, and savings shortfalls.
- Lost income — two weeks of net pay foregone while away, offset automatically by accrued vacation pay from your employer.
- Ongoing obligations — minimum debt payments, subscriptions and fixed bills that continue regardless of your trip.
- Savings coverage ratio — whether liquid savings adequately cover the combined cost without dipping below a safe minimum balance.
- Pay cycle timing — windows just after a payday score higher because funds have already landed.
- Debt-to-income ratio — high debt loads reduce viability scores and surface as blockers you can address before booking.
- Seasonal spending — overlapping high-spend months (holidays, insurance renewals) are factored into the score.

Bug fixes in v3.6.1:
- Dashboard warning suppression fix — the Payments page and Alerts Center now use the same billing period window (due date − 1 month). Previously a payment made early in the calendar month but before the account’s cycle day would show as “✅ Paid” on the Payments page while the dashboard alert kept firing.
- Ledger pay-bills panel fix — the “Paid” button in the Ledger page’s Pay Bills panel now correctly records debt payments with a
payToDebtledger entry instead of a generic expense, so the Alerts Center recognises them and clears the warning. - Reminder banner refresh fix — the amber due-date banner now re-evaluates every time the Dashboard is opened, clears automatically once payments are recorded, and uses billing-period-aware suppression (any payment within the period, not just zero-balance accounts).
